Dr. Erika Dyck’s chief interests include the history of psychiatry, mental health, deinstitutionalization and eugenics She s a professor of history and Canada Research Chair in the History of Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan.
While earning her doctoral degree, she was convinced by Dr. Larry Stewart to research the history of therapeutic experimentation with drugs in Canada. Upon discovering an asylum in Weyburn, Saskatchewan which had become "ground zero for international LSD research," she chose to conduct her thesis on this topic.
In 2005, she published the history of LSD, including its rise and decline from medical research, in an article in the Canadian Journal of Psychiatry.
She then published a book on the topic titled Psychedelic Psychiatry: LSD on the Canadian Prairies through the University of Manitoba Press.
She has written numerous addition articles and books related to psychedelics, and is a featured and beloved speaker at various psychedelic events and conferences.
She is currently editing two important books - the english version of “Women & Psychedelics – Uncovering Invisible Voices” with Synergetic Press and “Expanding Mindscapes, A Global History of Psychedelics” published by MIT Press.
